Lion Derek has been married to Pamela for thirty eight years and has two married sons.  He has been a Lion for almost twenty years during which time he has served his Club, Zone, Region, District and Multiple District.

He has served his club as President twice and secretary as well as being an active member of various committees.  Derek has been Cabinet Officer for many years Zone chairman three times and Region Chairman twice. The majority of this time as a specialist officer for Sight projects including Sight Conservation, Diabetes Campaign Sight First and The Lions Eye Health Programme.

His current post is Sight Conservation, Lions Eye Health Programme and Campaign Sight First II Officer.  He has also served the Multiple District in the capacity of MD Sight and MD Diabetes Officer. He is currently the Lions Eye Health Programme Committee Chairman and the MD Sight Officer.

Derek led two seminars on Diabetes at the International Convention in Birmingham.  He is a Certified Guiding Lion and last year completed the Senior Lions Leadership Institute in Bournemouth.

Throughout his Lionistic career he has been recognised for his service by various District Governors, but his highest recognitions are the International Presidents Appreciation certificate and Leadership Medal.
