His Excellency Ambassador Aristides Santis of Greece and Mrs. Santis warmly welcomed the Special Olympics Great Britain World Summer Games Team to their Residence in Mayfair. The 7 athletes are representing an additional 150 learning disabled athletes from England, Scotland and Wales who are honoured to compete for GB at the largest multi-sports event in the world in 2011: Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens. 180 countries and 7000 athletes will participate.
A highlight of the evening was a cheque presentation by John May and Philip Nathan MBE (Special Olympics GB Board member) of The International Association of Lion’s Clubs for £25,000. The money has been targeted to help send the team to compete in Athens.
