The Merry Month of May, merged into June!

To begin, I must express my thanks to everyone who was kind enough to write and congratulate me on receiving the Recognition Award at the MD Convention in Belfast.

However, the world did not stop in Belfast! May and June are Convention months, not just for the British Isles & Ireland, but for most European Multiple Districts and Single Districts as well.

No two conventions are the same and thanks to the support of the Committee we had the opportunity to attend several; my sincere thanks are due to those who gave their time to attend.

Romania and Germany were the first to be visited, followed the following week by Italy and the Netherlands. At the Netherlands Convention PIP Al Brandel and Maureen were the official guests, helping our Dutch friends to celebrate their 60th Anniversary, and it was a pleasure to meet up with them and enjoy their company.

A quiet(ish) few days followed then there were a number of important engagements in quick succession.

On Saturday 4th my Club celebrated its Charter Anniversary, a joint celebration in company with the Helen Keller Internet and Danbury Lions and an evening of fun and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

On Monday 6th June an evening reception took place at the Greek Embassy in London, courtesy of His Excellency the Ambassador. A number of Special Olympians attended, representing the Great Britain team going to Athens for the 2011 World Special Olympics. This was the opportunity for PDG John May, MD Physical & Learning Disabilities Officer and I to present SOGB with the £25,000 raised by the Lions of the MD as a contribution towards the athletes.

On Tuesday 7th June I hosted a full SOGB Board meeting then on the 8th it was the Stock Exchange Benevolent Fund board meeting, where I am the Charity Steward. In between telephone conferences in connection with the MedicAlert worldwide development plan, I chaired the MedicAlert Board on the 9th then it was off to Solihull for the VDGE Seminar which began on the 10th and the Youth Symposium which took place on Sunday 12th.

On Monday 13th I hosted a meeting of the Hearing Trust at my home, an opportunity to evaluate progress on the various initiatives that are ongoing.

In and around were visits to school in connection with my daughter’s forthcoming trip to Namibia, for what we hope will be the experience of a lifetime.

Life is certainly never dull!
