Dear Lion Club Members
The Maldon Leo club are holding a beetle drive on the 16th of March at the Ship and Anchor Pub, Maldon High street (it's right down the bottom of the hill on the right hand side) at 7-30 for 8.
The Maldon Leos have been very busy fundraising this year trying to raise £10,000 for a local girl called Katie Thompson. she is disabled and needs major alterations to her home to make her life a lot easier. The Local council have promised to help but only if they find half the money themselves which is a tall order for the family as they don't have much money and the father was made redundant in the middle of last year. the down side to the help from the council is they have put a time limit on how long they will hold onto the funds for which I believe is getting very near.
Maldon Leo club have so far raised over £7000 towards their target and held a race night on Saturday night (awaiting an update). please support your local Leo Club we only have 2 left in the whole of EA! for more information on what Maldon Leos are doing or details on the beetle Drive please contact Louisa Briault on 01621 853742. it is a cheap and fun evening which anyone can join in and enjoy, I should known my four year old has been before and had great fun "throwing" the dice and we had fun catching it!
thanks for your support
yours in Leo and Lionism

The District quiz was decide in the last round on Tuesday with Billericay coming from behind to win, for the second year running. Their success seems to be down to the amount of red wine they drink! The later in the evening the more points they get!!
I think all the clubs at one time during the evening were in the lead throughout the 10 rounds. Their combined knowledge is beyond belief, except for nursery rhymes!
All the teams shared in a great quiz but also in great fellowship, as this is why the quiz was set up in the first place many years ago. If your club did not take part this year please try and take part next year as you only get out what you put in.
Many thanks go to all the teams in the final , Stowmarket club for hosting and Adrian and Nicky for the actual quiz.
Hi Fellow Lions unfortunately once again I must bring your attention to another disaster in the form of the Chilean Earthquake & I include the following bulletin from the LCIF website.
Lions Clubs International Foundation is committed to aiding communities affected by disasters, including the most recent disaster in Chile following an 8.8 earthquake on February 27. The earthquake is one of the largest ever recorded, and more than 700 people are dead and 2 million people displaced as a result of the devastation to more than 1 million residences. The earthquake hit near the second largest city, Concepcion, and more than 60 earthquake aftershocks have been recorded
There has been a disaster fund set up & all lions or their clubs who wish to donate can do so through the District Treasurer - marking on the back of all cheques 'Chilean Earthquake'
Thanking you once again Fellow Lions your generosity shown this year in respect of all the appeals has been overwhelming

Anyone who has not booked their place at the meeting, their social events or accommodation still can. They have until the evening of Sunday the 13th of March to do this. Contact Barry on barrysheldrake@hotmail.co.uk.
Clubs are reminded that there will be a short 'Whacky Olympiad' as well as the fancy dress event - hopefully everyone is in training. Up to 6 different events are planned with a knockout round and a final, fairground skills will be needed. Prizes will be awarded. It would be helpful (not essential) if clubs who are taking part could contact me (Martin Langdon on m.langdon2@ntlworld.com; 01603 491934). All teams will be asked to register on the night when they register their fancy dress team.
West Norwich Lions have also not received many symbols/photos etc of local teams as yet. These should be sent to Lion Keith Teasdale at 29 Braithwaite Close, Norwich NR5 9EJ: 01603 744362: lionkeithteasdale@hotmail.com. They will be displayed on the night and returned on Saturday.
There are still places for the golf competition at Bawburgh Golf Course (a modern interesting valley course of 18 holes). Anyone interested should contact George Watt of Dereham Lions on ohgeorge@tiscali.co.uk.
